SUMMARY:PostgreSQL Edinburgh Meetup September 2026
DESCRIPTION:Be part of our Edinburgh PostgreSQL Meetup!\n\nJoin the Postgre
SQL Edinburgh organisers and fellow PostgreSQL enthusiasts at Room 1.27\,
Paterson's Land\, University of Edinburgh! Connect with peers (all levels
welcome!) for an evening of insightful discussions\, networking\, pizza\,
 and refreshments.\n\nAgenda\n\n• 6:00 PM: Doors Open\, Pizza & Networkin
 g\n• 6:55 PM: Introductions & Community Announcements\n• 7:00 PM: Jimm
y Angelakos – ColdFront: Transparent PostgreSQL Data Tiering to Apache I
ceberg\n ColdFront transparently tiers cold PostgreSQL data to Apache Iceb
erg on cheap object storage\, cutting costs while keeping rows fully acces
sible to your applications. Because the tiered data becomes columnar Parqu
et\, it instantly unlocks DuckDB-powered analytics inside Postgres and dir
ect access for your AI/ML pipelines. We'll explore the architecture\, deco
upled mode\, Spock active-active cluster integration\, and the TLA+ verifi
ed protocol that makes distributed concurrent writes safe. \n• 8:00 PM:
Daniel Roe – Working with Postgres in Nuxt (including live coding!)\n•
  8:40 PM: Wrap-up\n• 8:45 PM: Event End & Post-Meetup Social – We will
be heading over to The Canons' Gait (just a short walk away) to continue
the conversation. Whether you're joining for a pint\, a soft drink\, or ju
st to hang out and chat\, we'd love for you to drop by!\n\nThis meetup is
bound by the PostgreSQL Code of Conduct.\n\nIf you'd like to speak at one
of our meetups\, please drop us an email at info (at) postgres.scot.\n\nEv
 ent kindly sponsored by pgEdge.

 00 Praha 4).\n\nLightning talks Submissions => prahapostgres@gmail.com\n\n
 Agenda:\n17:30 Doors open\n17:45 - 18:00 Barclays - Host Introductory talk
 \n18:00 - 18:45 Access Control in Practice by Michal Bartak\n18:45 - 19:00
Coffee Break\n19:00 - 19:30 PostgreSQL TDE took a decade. What now? by Ja
 n Wieremjewicz\n19:30 - 19:40 Adaptive Autovacuum demo by Mayur\n19:40 - 2
 0:30 Networking\n20:30 End of event\n\nSpeakers:\nJan Wieremjewicz is a Se
nior Product Manager at Percona\, leading the software products for Postgr
eSQL. He has vast experience in the development\, deployment and maintenan
ce of enterprise systems. Professionally\, he is passionate about simple s
olutions that solve complicated problems and user experience that maximize
s the product potential. Privately he is a foodie by day\, a tech geek int
o graphic novels\, video and board games by night and parent/spouse in bet
ween. He is known to have enough energy and topics to fill in any space an
d time given the opportunity\, so tread carefully!\n\nMichal Bartak has be
en working with databases since around 2000 and has focused entirely on Po
stgreSQL since 2010. Over the years\, he has gained hands-on experience bu
ilding performant\, mission-critical software - experience that he has bee
n able to pass on while leading database development teams.\nHe enjoys sha
ring practical insights on software architecture and programming\, and hel
ping others connect more closely with the PostgreSQL community.\n\nTalks d
etails :\nAccess Control in Practice by Michal Bartak\n\nPostgreSQL provid
es a complete set of mechanisms for controlling access to data\, but combi
ning them into a practical access policy can have some more or less expect
ed pitfalls. This talk touches on object privileges\, PostgreSQL defaults\
, and how to cope with external connections (dblink and FDW). We’ll not
forget about pg_hba.conf and PgBouncer as additional layers of access cont
rol. Finally\, we’ll compare two approaches to implementing access polic
ies: source-data-based and function-based.\n\nPostgreSQL TDE took a decade
. What now? by Jan Wieremjewicz :\nIt took about a decade to get a fully o
pen source TDE solution for PostgreSQL\, and we are still not quite done.
TDE is still not part of PostgreSQL Community without additional server ch
anges.\nThis talk is a practical update on where PostgreSQL TDE is today\,
why it matters\, what still does not work well enough and what the possib
le paths forward are.\nI recently heard that “there are no good TDE solu
tions for PostgreSQL.” Let’s challenge that\, look at the remaining ga
ps and discuss what it would take for the community to get TDE to a good p
lace.\n\nLooking forward to meeting you all again!\n\nhttps://www.meetup.c
