 \n18:00 - 18:45 Access Control in Practice by Michal Bartak\n18:45 - 19:00
Coffee Break\n19:00 - 19:30 PostgreSQL TDE took a decade. What now? by Ja
 n Wieremjewicz\n19:30 - 19:40 Adaptive Autovacuum demo by Mayur\n19:40 - 2
 0:30 Networking\n20:30 End of event\n\nSpeakers:\nJan Wieremjewicz is a Se
nior Product Manager at Percona\, leading the software products for Postgr
eSQL. He has vast experience in the development\, deployment and maintenan
ce of enterprise systems. Professionally\, he is passionate about simple s
olutions that solve complicated problems and user experience that maximize
s the product potential. Privately he is a foodie by day\, a tech geek int
o graphic novels\, video and board games by night and parent/spouse in bet
ween. He is known to have enough energy and topics to fill in any space an
d time given the opportunity\, so tread carefully!\n\nMichal Bartak has be
en working with databases since around 2000 and has focused entirely on Po
stgreSQL since 2010. Over the years\, he has gained hands-on experience bu
ilding performant\, mission-critical software - experience that he has bee
n able to pass on while leading database development teams.\nHe enjoys sha
ring practical insights on software architecture and programming\, and hel
ping others connect more closely with the PostgreSQL community.\n\nTalks d
etails :\nAccess Control in Practice by Michal Bartak\n\nPostgreSQL provid
es a complete set of mechanisms for controlling access to data\, but combi
ning them into a practical access policy can have some more or less expect
ed pitfalls. This talk touches on object privileges\, PostgreSQL defaults\
, and how to cope with external connections (dblink and FDW). We’ll not
forget about pg_hba.conf and PgBouncer as additional layers of access cont
rol. Finally\, we’ll compare two approaches to implementing access polic
ies: source-data-based and function-based.\n\nPostgreSQL TDE took a decade
. What now? by Jan Wieremjewicz :\nIt took about a decade to get a fully o
pen source TDE solution for PostgreSQL\, and we are still not quite done.
TDE is still not part of PostgreSQL Community without additional server ch
anges.\nThis talk is a practical update on where PostgreSQL TDE is today\,
why it matters\, what still does not work well enough and what the possib
le paths forward are.\nI recently heard that “there are no good TDE solu
tions for PostgreSQL.” Let’s challenge that\, look at the remaining ga
ps and discuss what it would take for the community to get TDE to a good p
lace.\n\nLooking forward to meeting you all again!\n\nhttps://www.meetup.c

ning Talks (Radim Marek\, Sergey Chehuta) \n19:00 - 19:30 Introduction to
 Lakehouse with PostgreSQL by Josef Šimánek\n19:30 - 20:30 Networking\n20
:30 End of event\n\nSpeakers:\nJosef Šimánek is an open source enthusias
t with contributions to PostgreSQL itself\, former maintainer of RubyGems.
org and RubyGems/Bundler projects and currently 11 years in FUGA (fuga.com
).\n\nVik Fearing is a Major Contributor to PostgreSQL and an official edi
tor of the SQL standard\, which he has helped write as a member of the ISO
/IEC SQL committee (WG3) since 2022. He has been part of the PostgreSQL co
mmunity since 2008 and lives in France.\n\nWithin the community\, he is th
e founder and co-organizer of pgDay Paris\, an inaugural member of the Pos
tgreSQL Code of Conduct Committee\, a moderator of several PostgreSQL mail
ing lists\, an IRC operator for #postgresql and #postgresql-fr\, and part
of the team behind the @PostgreSQL account. He speaks at conferences aroun
 d the world.\n\nTalks details :\nWhat is NULL? by Vik Fearing\n"NULL" is a
single token in SQL with at least six distinct meanings\, and the standar
d is conspicuously quiet about which one you're getting at any given site.
A NULL produced by an outer join doesn't mean the same thing as a NULL in
an unpopulated column\, which doesn't mean the same thing as the NULL SUM
returns over an empty set\, which doesn't mean the same thing as the NULL
a ROLLUP super-aggregate writes into a grouping column. We call it "three
-valued logic" as if that were the design. It isn't. The design is that we
built one escape hatch and then stuffed everything we couldn't model into
it.\n\nThis talk is the inventory I wish someone had handed me thirty yea
rs ago. I'll walk through every place SQL produces or accepts a NULL\, wha
t it actually means there\, what the standard says about it (and where it
declines to say anything)\, and what Postgres actually does at each of tho
se sites. Postgres gets most of this right\, which is interesting in itsel
f\, because "right" here means picking one reading of an ambiguous spec an
d living with the consequences. I'll point at the places where the consequ
ences bite. I'll also detour through a few notable sins committed elsewher
e\, Oracle's insistence that the empty string is NULL chief among them\, b
ecause the contrast sharpens what Postgres chose not to do.\n\nIf you've e
ver written x NOT IN (SELECT y FROM t)\, watched it return zero rows\, and
spent the rest of the afternoon working out why\, this is the talk for yo
u.\n\nIntroduction to Lakehouse with PostgreSQL by Josef Šimánek :\nAbst
ract TBD\n\nLooking forward to meeting you all again!\n\nhttps://www.meetu
